Yumiko Yamaoka (山岡 由美子, Yamaoka Yumiko) is a character in Captain Tsubasa series.

Description[]

She's the mother of Taro Misaki, who did not meet with him until the Battle of World Youth arc. She's a very quiet woman who physically resembles both of her children, Taro and Yoshiko.

History[]

11 years prior to Boku wa Misaki Taro, Yumiko and Ichiro Misaki got a divorce. 6 years later, she re-married and had a little daughter.

Boku wa Misaki Taro[]

During one of Ichiro's exhibitions, as they were talking about Ichiro's wish to go to France to study the arts, Ichiro's sponsor Shimonari suggested to leave Taro in the care of someone else. That "someone else" turned out to be Yumiko, who had discussed the issue with Shimonari beforehand, and also wanted to take care of Taro. Ichiro talked to Taro about it and told him that it would be better for Taro to stay with his mother and her family, so he'd have a more stable life and be able to develop his soccer talents better.

However, when Ichiro brought Taro to the Yamaoka residence, Taro told Ichiro that he preferred going to France with him, saying "I am Taro Misaki, not Taro Yamaoka" (hence the title of the one-shot). They then left without speaking to Yumiko.

J Boys' Challenge[]

Yumiko had a brief appearance as a supporter of Taro and All Japan Jr. Youth who watched the final against West Germany on TV.

Battle of World Youth[]

After winning the football tournament of the All Japan Inter-High School Athletic Competition, Taro was visited by a young girl, who turned out to be Yoshiko Yamaoka. She had learned about Taro via Yumiko, and both of them went to the stadium to cheer for him that day. As Yumiko couldn't bring herself to meet Taro, Yoshiko went to see him alone, and asked if he'd go to meet Yumiko and her father.

After being evicted from the Japanese youth team by Minato Gamo, Taro travelled around the world. During this time, he decided to write to Yumiko for the first time. In the letter, he promised to go see her after Japan would be qualified for the World Youth Tournament.

Taro kept his promise and went to visit Yumiko on his last day off before the World Youth. The encounter was somewhat awkward at first, but it ended pretty well. However, on his way back, Taro suffered a severe injury to his left leg after saving Yoshiko from being hit by a bus. Yumiko asked Ichiro if he'd let her look after Taro until he can stand on the field again. Ichiro left the decision to Taro, and this time, Taro agreed to be in his mother's care.

Boku wa Misaki Taro 2/Rising Sun[]

The Yamaoka family arrived at Ueno to see Ichiro's latest exhibition. After that, they went to Spain to cheer for Taro, who was participating in the Madrid Olympics.
